THE PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF THE SPREAD OF INFECTION IN HOSPICES
Hospices provide a safe and comfortable space for those needing end-of-life care.
Staff work incredibly hard to ensure that patients feel secure, but this can be particularly challenging during a pandemic.
In 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 turned the world upside down and forced hospitals, care homes and hospices to drastically change the way care is provided.
While all hospices have a proper cleaning regime in place, suddenly everything a patient or worker touches, from light switches to handrails, must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to reduce the risk of transmission.
Viruses such as COVID-19 can spread rapidly through surfaces and even aerosols.
Hunter UV developed the T-1000 as a straightforward, effective, and easy-to-use solution to cleaning in hospices.
Developed through years of scientific research, Hunter UV’s T-1000 can be used to clean and disinfect all common areas and shared facilities within a hospice in no more than 60 seconds.
HOW DOES THE T-1000 WORK?
The UV-C light causes damage to the nucleic acid of microorganisms by forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA.
This preventing the DNA from reproducing, and all within a neat, simple to use, piece of technology.
We designed the T-1000 with people in mind.
Any member of staff can be trained to use the Disinfection Cobot through a simple four-step process:
- Firstly, the cobot must be placed in the appropriate area that requires disinfection, such as a patient room, dining area or another common space.
- Then, the cobot must be connected to the app via a tablet device.
- Once everything is in place, the room must be vacated to allow the T-1000 to begin its cleaning cycle.
- When the cleaning is complete, the T-1000 can be taken into the next space for disinfection. It is that simple.
In line with Government advice, Hunter UV has created a set of instructions to follow for the Disinfection Cobot.
Anyone using the T-1000 must adhere to the recommended concentration, application method and contact time.
How Can The T-1000 Help Our Hospice?
Cleaning is time-consuming and, during a virus outbreak, the amount of cleaning required in hospices is immense.
The T-1000 offers an extra layer of security for large indoor areas such as patient rooms, communal spaces like living areas or dining rooms, eliminating viruses within just one minute.
The T-1000 should be implemented as part of your usual cleaning routine, helping to prevent the spread of viruses and other harmful bacteria or pathogens.
Government guidance stipulates that hand sanitiser with a 60-95% alcohol content must be placed in every resident room (both inside and outside), and proper facilities for handwashing are in place; however, all areas within the hospice will need to be disinfected at least two times a day.
High contact surface areas such as door handles, faucets, toilet flushes, light switches, elevator buttons, handrails, countertops, chairs, tables and remote controls must all be cleaned thoroughly and regularly to prevent viruses, bacteria or other harmful pathogens from spreading.
